Michael Rosen and the BBC2 visit Victoria Park Books
5th December 2007
Michael Rosen - the Children's Laureate,
comes to Victoria Park Books to read to a group of children from
Wentworth Nursery, and tells The Daily Politics programme on BBC2
that phonics are no substitute for teaching a love of reading.

Matthew Parker - a writer, editor and reviewer
specialising in modern history. Author of acclaimed bestsellers
The Battle of Britain and Monte Cassino. His new book is called
Panama Fever: the Battle to Build the Canal. This is the epic
story of a thirty-year battle against the elements, disease, impossible
terrain and massive financial collapse to create one of the most
extraordinary engineering feats in history.

Robin Richmond - fine artist, illustrator and author
and founder of publisher White Stork Press. Author of 9 books
and creator of a body of artistic work which has been shown in
galleries from New York, to London. We have been lucky enough
to show some of the paintings from her recent book The Storm Tree
and Robin is coming to talk about the paintings and the book.
Robin works in watercolour, oil and mixed media and is also a
printmaker and makes paper. She will be starting a residency in
France in 2007 at a 17th century paper mill in the Dordogne.

Jim Keeble - grew up in Cambridge. He is the author
of Independence Day: A Broken Heart's Voyage Around the U.S.A.,
one of the New York Times Best Travel books of 2001; The A-Z of
Us published by Penguin and My Fat Brother which is currently
being into a Hollywood movie. He also writes feature films, including
the award-winning comedy The Most Fertile Man in Ireland.

Sonia Lambert - her skilful debut novel is called
Three Mothers and is about the very different lives of three generations
of women in one extraordinary family. It covers a historical period
spanning the Nazi occupation of Austria through the '60s to the
present day.

Victoria Park Books Book Club
There is now a Book Club which meets at the shop roughly every
six weeks. The inaugural meeting was on Monday 30 January at 8pm
and the book discussed was "The Girls of Slender Means"
by Muriel Spark. The next book will be "Mother's Milk"
by Edward St Aubyn and we will be meeting on Monday 19th March
at 8pm. If you are interested in participating please contact
us.
Tots' Reading
We have two themed reading sessions for pre-schoolers, one on
a Tuesday at 10.30am for 3-4 year olds, and one on a Friday at
11am for 0-3 year olds. The Friday session also includes some
nursery rhymes and singing. Please feel free to drop in.
We regularly hold special signing, book launch and author reading
